To Lemon or Not to Lemon....

you know what I have always wondered. all of you write great lemons.. and I can't help but think that you must have the greatest sex ever hahaha sorry but I had to go there. I mean you write it, you must have it! Write what you know?

Here is the sad part.. I have 2 kids, girl just turned 1, and the boy is 3. They both have built in sex blocking radars!!

I hold that Edward, in all his years, would be far too wise and conscientious to simply believe that Bella would enjoy the experience of being immediately penetrated, with no prior stimulation. When I wrote the wedding night, I made damn well sure Mr. Cullen didn't try any of that spread her open and do her without a passing thought about foreplay business. Unacceptable. And completely un-Edward-like!

We all know how anal his character is about not hurting her, for God's sake.

One should consider, also, that Edward IS a vampire, and has certain abilities (i.e. with speed, and his hands) that human males do not.

do you guys really need to know what i think about this topic?

"write what you know". i did dedicate the one-shot to my hubby. i told him that this evening, and he just got a really goofy grin on his face. he hasn't read it yet.

so i'm going to wax philosophical on this topic.... i loves me a good lemon as much as you all, but the good ones are rare. and i keep getting these reviews for MHBS that're all "where's the zorro sex? where's the lotion sex? where's the baking sex?"

i know they're said in good fun, but i feel the impatience. i keep teasing you guys with my comments of "antici..... pation", but i'm really being serious. i'm trying to write a good story here, and if you ask me.... two very compatible people meeting and then going at it like circus monkeys immediately just isn't realistic, nor is it good story telling. suuuuuuure.... wrath does beth like, upon first meeting. but dude. edward is not wrath. (yeahhhhh i just went all BDB on ya. i'd better stop before i start thinkin' 'bout V... mmm.... V... stop!)

where was i? oh, yes. sex and smut. i prefer the steamy build-up to the actual act. those of you who've read my one-shot will snort at that, but it's true. the "act" holds more meaning when you understand the emotions behind it. sure, a well-written lemon is still a well-written lemon, but when you know the meaning behind the glances and the sighs, it's much hotter that way.

i really tried to convey this in "welcome home". not a lot of people commented on it, and i think it's because they were so dazed. but i felt like the reason the sex was so.... tasty... was because there was a real level of intimacy conveyed. sure, you're reading about bella in the shower. but the whole time, she's remembering little things about the man she's totally in love with and married to.

this, to me, is what makes it hot. to get a little TMI on ya, one of the best things about being with my husband is having little fantasies about previous escapades during the act. sorry! it's true. i have little flashbacks during playtime, and it just gets me all the more riled up. does that make sense?

anyway, i love bella and edward, and i think in the beginning of their relationship that their lovin' would be sweet. but i also believe that the pent-up sexual tension is super duper hot, even in SM's world. that's what makes "the final act" soooo very delicious- we've been waiting. we've been panting. we've been hoping.

so for those of you on this thread who are anxiously waiting for zorroward and the bellster to go at it like freaky deaky zoo animals.... sorry. you're going to be kept waiting.

ps- i started writing "welcome home"'s sequel tonight. i know, i know. it's going to take a while. getting into sexward's head is a lot harder than you would think, even for smutty little ole me.

Do you know why Boycotts and Barflies was so great.. it was the buildup, how slowly they were discovering each other and how it all lead them to that final chapter. That is what makes a great story great. There are different levels of smut, there is the quickie, where you get what you need and quickly at that. And then there is the stories that make you feel like you will explode if you do not read about them finally getting it on.

Honestly, I like both, but for completely different reasons.

Honestly, I think that's the best we can do in a lot of these scenarios. Give it a few coats of gloss and hope for the best.

Although now I'm wondering, how could one setup the all-important wedding night in such a way that it would maximize the experience for them both in a realistic way?

Well, my first thought is to put Edward to work and make him do some exhaustive research on the subject. Let him work out his boredom and obsessive tendencies one night by doing his homework. I think this is one instance where we can't let him get squeamish or old-fashioned about it, either.

Akaibara, I don't supposed you'd write this story would you? Just reading your thoughts on it, the preparation, the explanations from the rest of the family - I would be so excited to read that. I love the romantical and the hot lemons, but to see Edward actively working up to it, thinking it out and figuring out exactly what he needs to do to make it work for Bella (and for him) would be an awesome read.

That said, I have a question and I really don't know where I should be asking it, but why the heck are sex scenes called Lemons in the Twilight fandom? I've never heard the term before I joined up here.

I can answer this~ The term 'lemon' is actually borrowed from anime fandom, although I think it's kind of spread across fanfiction in general at this point. (Probably because we all cross-pollinate.) There are a couple of different theories on where it came from, who knows which one is right. *shrug* But I've always heard that it was from a hentai (porn) anime called Cream Lemon.

Lemon is explicit sex. Lime is R-rated sex. Citrus usually refers to what I call heavy petting. XD Or very glossed over sex.

Oooh yay for story! I can be patient and wait for the good stuff. Thanks so much for saiting my curiousity! The other fandoms I'm in don't use any terms other than smut, schmoop, and fluff for the affectionate stuff so this clears things up.

I do write, but I am a "lemon virgin". Thats not saying that my story won't take me in that direction, it is just not how it has progressed thus far. Though, I think writing a lemon would be a lot like the act itself. You cant always just plan it out, sometime it just needs to come naturally, and to me those are the hottest ones. The ones that you read in a story and can tell that the author did not necessary plan to write a lemon, but got so lost in the story and characters that it happend. Does that make sense?

I do applaud any author who has even remotely attemped to write a lemon, it scares the heck out of me.
