Online criticism

Online literature is pretty low on quality. Do you think this is because of the "niceness epidemic" - that no one wants to criticise each other?

This article does think so. I thought it relevant here because, well, online literature is pretty much what this place is all about.

Yeah... there's a problem about criticiscm online that I think happens to readers and writers, and it's that no one knows anymore what's honest criticism and what's simply flaming and being mean for no reason. I'm going to read the article, it seems interesting.

Everyone needs to find that balance between constructive criticism and just criticising. It happens with twilight, a reader doesn't like something personally, so instead of objectively critiquing he/she will blast the story. Fanfiction holds this dilemma as well, one should give the writer pointers, instead of finding a reason to say something terrible.
