Anybody Ever Wonder...

So, I'll qualify this by saying I've had entirely too much time on my hands due to completing a fellowship and being currently unemployed but....


Has anyone ever questioned whether or not Edward and Bella were actually true vampire mates? I mean, we all know that Carlisle, the scholar that he is, doesn't know EVERYTHING (look at how long it took for someone think of Bella drinking blood for Nessie). In re-reading the series I found myself questioning whether Edward's intense attraction to Bella was just the draw of her blood and the escape/intrigue of her quiet mind. I mean for someone who's never been in love (in about 100 years) and needed Alice to TELL him he loved Bella, how can he trust that what he felt was real? Of course, Carlisle SAID the only thing that can change the frozen vamp (not sure I even agree with that theory b/c either he was a rebellious teenager capable of serial-killing at age 17 or vamps are indeed capable of changing) is finding one's true love/soul mate, but none of them had ever spent a significant amount of time around their singers. And it seems that Edward was the only one who required some convincing and a pretty significant amount of time (in comparison to other vamps) to even admit he was in love. I think as readers/viewers we see his actions as those of a man in love, but at times I couldn't help but they could just as easily be those of a man obsessed (with his crack rock). Just a thought. What do you guys think?
